About Artist

Wang Wei-huang, who used to fish by the seaside in his youth, gradually became fascinated by the ever-changing colors refracted on the sea surface under the sunlight while waiting for the fish to bite. Upon formally studying painting after reaching the age of forty, seascapes became his favorite and most keenly observed subject. With his keen observations, he can always capture the subtlest color variations on the sea surface. In fact, some of his fisherman friends can identify the locations where fish gather just by looking at his paintings.

Now in his eighties, Wang Wei-huang's passion for painting remains unabated. Every week, he tirelessly takes fellow artists to mountains and seas for on-site sketching, often carrying large canvases of size 40 or 50 to paint on the spot. His enthusiasm for learning is evident as he still practices figure sketches every week, commuting from his home in Muzha to the studio in Xinzhuang.
