About Artist

Chang Ling (1975-), after studying in France in 1996, developed a keen interest in public affairs such as politics, economics, and culture. Upon returning to his homeland in 2005, he cultivated a unique artistic style that delves into the memories of his motherland through his own fundamental composition. His creative focus shifted to center around "people," sparking five cultural themes collectively known as the "Five Pork" series.

Chang Ling extrapolates from the essence of biology to derive five cultural themes: "Meat Landscapes," "Meat Flowers and Birds," "Meat Cities," "Meat Weapons," and "Meat Religion." These themes cover the context of Eastern and Western political, social, and cultural structures. By integrating the intellectual systems emphasized in European culture with Eastern aesthetic tastes, Chang Ling brings together the initially divergent cultural worlds, finding a nuanced beauty within the layers of oil paint.

The "Five Pork" series unfolds as a grand history of the civilization evolution in the world of meat, with a multi-layered evolution characterized by the interplay of spirit to nourish the alternating fat and lean. The meat world Chang Ling attempts to construct is not merely about inherent or surface desires but embodies flesh as red as dates, slick with fatty oils flowing and surging between heaven and earth. Through the collision of meat elements and the cool factors of culture, sparks of scorching transformations are generated, allowing blood to flow like a stream, forming layers of meat chunks that create rocks, birds, and beasts. Instead of conveying a sense of terror, the series exists with a darkly humorous demeanor.

Chang Ling states, "Our mountains and waters have long been stripped of human desires. I am simply expressing the remaining reality."
