郭凱的繪畫作品給人的第一印象，就是像一首詩，一闋歌，或一篇美的散文。「畫中有詩」向來是中國品畫的要項之一，郭凱的繪畫尤其含有濃得化不開的詩意。郭凱經常在古宅、祠堂間留連忘返。他覺得古宅裡的先人其實離他不遠，他甚至感覺到可以與那些先人溝通，古宅宗祠裡的傳家訓詞、箴言都還歷歷可見，那些古宅雖然都已歷經三、五百年的歲月，但較諸千百年的歷史長河，其實都還算年輕。

Guo Kai's paintings leave a first impression akin to a poem, a song, or a beautiful prose. The concept of "painting with poetry" has always been a key element in traditional Chinese art, and Guo Kai's paintings, in particular, carry a rich and indelible poetic quality. Guo Kai often lingers in ancient houses and ancestral halls. He feels that the ancestors in these ancient houses are not far from him, and he even senses the possibility of communicating with them. The ancestral teachings and proverbs within the ancestral halls are vividly visible to him. Despite having endured three or five centuries, these ancient houses, when compared to the millennia of historical river flow, are still considered relatively young.
